Frequently Asked Questions
How can you support my child’s success in school? What grade levels and subjects do you support?
If your child has had difficulty with traditional teaching methods, it’s likely that they need something different; something targeted to their individual learning needs. That’s where we come in! With dual degrees in general and special education, we specialize in working with students in elementary and intermediate grades, including students who have learning differences (ADHD, learning disabilities, Autism). Through tutoring, we support the development of academic skills and positive work habits. It can empower your child to learn about what works best for their amazing, unique, neurodivergent brain.
Does online tutoring work? How is this different from virtual learning?
Skepticism surrounding online tutoring is valid! The virtual learning of 2020 was incredibly challenging for lots of students and families. Fortunately online tutoring with a skilled teacher of students with learning differences is a distinct experience that can greatly boost your child’s school success and confidence.
The key difference is in how we work together. Instead of sitting in a remote classroom full of distracted children, we will work with your child 1:1 to identify how they learn as an individual. We will design a tutoring program specific to the unique instructional and skill gaps your child is facing, and we’ll check in regularly to adjust and modify the tutoring approach as needed.
How will I know what my child is working on and if they are making progress?
Before we begin our work together, we’ll complete a comprehensive intake to discuss your child’s strengths and support needs as well as to identify tutoring goals. After each session, you’ll receive a session summary including a progress update.
My child struggles with organization, homework completion, and study skills. How can you support?
Many neurodivergent students struggle with executive function, or cognitive processes that manage and regulate thoughts, actions, and emotions. Executive functions support behaviors like task initiation, organization, planning, self-motivation, and time management— all skills critical to success in school. In children, executive function challenges can create anxiety and foster low self-esteem. It can even lead to and present as behavioral challenges.
Fortunately, executive functions can be developed and practiced. After we identify areas of weakness in executive function, we’ll explore a variety of strategies and solutions your child can choose from in creating their own systems and habits to support their success.
How much does it cost?
At Dreamwork, we know that every child is unique. That’s why each child’s tutoring plan is uniquely designed to meet their needs. We offer sessions ranging from 30 to 90 minutes with prices starting as low as $60 per session.
Will you coordinate with my child’s teachers?
YES! As teachers ourselves, we love to work with teachers! Feedback on how your child is applying what they are learning in tutoring in school (or that they might need more support with) supports your child’s overall success.
